What to do for date night in Knox-Henderson

Last week, a friend from work and relatively new Dallasite texted me wanting to know what he and his girlfriend should do in Dallas for last-minute date night. My head started spinning. With so many noteworthy restaurants and activities in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, I knew that my reply would be putting my foodie and socialite reputation on the line. Almost immediately, I was overcome with a calming clarity.

Great food, fine spirits and fun in Knox-Henderson

My wife and I thought through all the places I could suggest to him: Chicken Scratch for good fried chicken and a beer at the Foundry, Fearing’s at The Ritz for a ritzy (and $$$) night, FT33 for critically acclaimed entrees, Babb’s Bros Bar-B-Q for some value BBQ… and then it hit me. In one fell swoop, the night came together in my head. He needed to take his girlfriend to experience a true Knox-Henderson date night.

Happy Hour: The Hacienda on Henderson

In case you weren’t aware, Knox-Henderson has some of the best happy hour specials in Dallas. Being a Friday night in Knox-Henderson, there were plenty of options to choose from. With perfect weather outside, a patio was not only a nice-to-have, but a must-have. With their irresistible margarita specials and cheap beers, The Hacienda on Henderson made a memorable patio experience.

Dinner: The Porch

After being on a date night to The Porch not long ago, I knew that this recommendation was sure to be a hit. When you walk in to The Porch on a Friday night, you know you’re a part of the “in” crowd. Although it can take a while to get seated, their drink mixologists will keep you happy (we recommend trying the Moscow Mule, if you’re a fan of ginger beer). The next morning, I received a text saying, “Dude, The Porch was great. Good pick.”

Activity: Stroll along Henderson Avenue

Post-dinner, the couple took a pleasant walk around Henderson Avenue. With nightclubs starting to open up and restaurants still packed, it’s easy to see why Henderson Avenue is seen as a nightlife hotspot. Although many of the boutiques and antique stores were already closed, my friend had to make a promise that they would eventually come back during the day sometime.

Nightlife: The Old Monk

The evening was coming to a close due to the fact that my friend had an early Saturday morning ahead of him. To finish off the night, the two went to a local favorite, The Old Monk, an Irish pub located on the Henderson side of Knox-Henderson. The Old Monk has a seasoned history of winning awards for it’s environment, beer and food. After one draft beer each, the pair headed home exhausted from their first true Knox-Henderson experience.
